GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Assists with the coordination, marketing, and facilitation of programs
and related special events at all DHCLS agencies. Performs routine general library work related to
the direct and/or indirect operation of any DHCLS branch or departmental location, including
organization/shelving of library materials, the provision of informational and circulation
services, and instruction of users in the use of library technology, materials, and services.
Special projects may also be assigned.
Will be responsible for providing as-needed support staffing to any library locations and our
bookmobile, particularly during programs and in the Youth Services department.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general written/oral direction and supervision of the
Assistant Director of Programs and Outreach who issues instructions and checks work performed. May
also work under the direct supervision of a branch or department manager at the assigned location
for the duration of the shift. Requires the ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision. The
exercising of independent judgment and initiative is necessary.

JOB DUTIES:
•  Understands and supports the Library’s role in providing free and equal access to ideas,
information, resources, and services from all points of view to every individual.
•  Plans, presents, and implements creative programming for various audiences and that supports the
strategic plan of DHCLS and the changing needs of the community.
•  Assists with program room set-ups and resets as needed.
•  Has familiarity with the Library’s online library calendar and assists patrons with program
questions, registrations, and room reservations.
•  Actively engages in outreach efforts and cultivates partnerships with local organizations that
strengthen the mission of the DHCLS.
•  Performs circulation functions, including checking in/out of materials and patron account
creation/updates.
•  Demonstrates positive customer service skills and assists users with library materials/services
either in person or over the telephone.
•  Assists in locating, renewing, and reserving library materials/services and instructs in their use,
including nontraditional library materials.
•  Shelving/Shelf-Reading/Straightening of library materials.
•  Answers informational and directional questions and recommends library materials/services in a
helpful and courteous manner.
•  Identifies items to be added, mended, or discarded.
•  Serves as backup desk coverage when needed at all DHCLS locations.
•  Performs a variety of specialized library work, including work as a passport acceptance agent
and Notary Public if applicable.
•  Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Communication skills, ability to read and understand English;
computer skills, ability to learn and master existing and new technologies. Must have critical
thinking skills and a strong work ethic. Ability to engage community partners, Customers, and staff in
the promotion of DHCLS and its programs. Ability to implement and follow through on an established
work plan. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to
complete assigned tasks with minimal direction. Requires the ability to work nights and weekends.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High School graduate (or equivalent) and preferably two (2)
years’ experience in a related work environment.

office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, and crouch. The 
employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by 
this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, 
and the ability to adjust focus. May require driving to various locations. While performing the 
duties of this job, the employee will periodically encounter stressful, emergency situations, 
including patrons displaying behavioral issues, patrons showing signs of intoxication or 
inebriation, and patrons experiencing
physical or mental health events.
Compensation: $16.50 per hour
